If you’re an independent voter or Democrat who is getting a bit tired of the Internet powerhouse Drudge Report’s political positioning of news items and/or have been turned off by some of its big news scoops that didn’t quite pan out in terms of the HUGE HEADLINES (the ones that have simply vanished off the site with no explanation) there are alternatives. Santorum and Gingrich Scramble for the Conservative Vote

WASHINGTON — Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich both pleaded with conservatives on Sunday to unite behind their candidacies in a last-ditch effort to stop Mitt Romney’s march to the Republican presidential nomination. Mr. Santorum said the Republican contest needed to quickly narrow to a two-person race between Mr. Romney and someone else, but he declined to explicitly call on the other candidates to drop out. “I’m not going to tell anybody to get in or out of a race; I think that’s their decision to make,” Mr. Santorum said on Fox News Sunday. Electric cars may not be so green after all, says British study (another lib myth down the tubes)

ELECTRIC cars could produce higher emissions over their lifetimes than petrol equivalents because of the energy consumed in making their batteries, a study has found. An electric car owner would have to drive at least 129,000km before producing a net saving in CO2. Many electric cars will not travel that far in their lifetime because they typically have a range of less than 145km on a single charge and are unsuitable for long trips. Even those driven 160,000km would save only about a tonne of CO2 over their lifetimes. The British study, which is the first analysis of the full...

Why Green Energy Can’t Power a Job Engine (Evergreen Solar closes factory in Massachusetts)

Evergreen Solar announced last week that it was closing its plant in Devens, Mass., laying off 800 workers, and moving production to China. Evergreen’s factory had received more than $40 million in subsidies, which led many to see the plant closing as lesson in the futility of green energy and industrial policy. But what does Evergreen’s story really teach us about solar energy, public subsidies and the future of American manufacturing? Evergreen Solar’s story begins in 1994, when three alumni of Mobil’s solar division broke away to form their own company. They started in a 2,500-square-foot lab in Waltham, Mass.,...
